True Believer in Essential Oils – That’s Me

My recent and ongoing studies with essential oils has made me a true believer in their benefits and impact on how they support us in so many ways (the long lost medicine/healer in me has been activated).  Utilizing Michelle Meramour’s Body Feedback System  has upgraded my energy work to a new level.  Clients love the process and provide feedback by confirming results real-time.  

Since ancient times, herbs and plants were known to have healing properties.  We lost touch with this knowledge overtime, but essential oils are now jumping back into popularity.  We see them everywhere from natural health, pet care to DIY projects and more.  The truth is that that these oils which come from nature support us in mind, body and spirit.

Essential oils are concentrated properties of flowers and plants and once picked, they go thru a distillation process to extracts oils from the flower, branch, leaves or roots. 

Components found in essential oils are terpenes, alcohols, esters, ketones, aldehydes, and phenols. These organic chemicals impact the smell. The antioxidant value in some essential oils alone is incredible. 

There are three types of terpenes (one of the major organic chemicals) contained in essential oils which are phenylpropanoids, monoterpenes, and sesquiterpenes. Phenylpropanoids cleans the receptor sites on cells, which in turn support a healthy body. For example phenylpropanoids are found in clove, basil and cinnamon.  Monoterpenes help break up mucus and act as a decongestant and are found in lots of  essential oils. Lastly, sesquiterpenes can cross the blood brain barrier increasing the oxygen in cells and may be found, fore example, in cedarwood, vetiver and patchouli. 

Essential oils can be used topically, diffused, or added to food.  Essential oils are very small and easily enter through the skin and when inhaling they disperse and get carried throughout the body. 

Using a few drops of essential oil on the soles of your feet is a great way to apply the essential oil (remembering that the oils enter through the skin and  travel through the body very quickly) and this location is perfect to test to see if you have a reaction to the oil.  Using a carrier oil (like coconut oil on the sole first) is a great base for the essential oil and many essential oils may need to be diluted.

Lastly, are all brands of essential oils equal?  The answer is no.   My “go to” for essential oils is Young Living.  Young Living is committed to establishing and maintaining the ultimate, industry-leading standard in essential oil products.  

What I learned pretty quickly is that my home was filled with toxic products which were easily replaced and some I created with fun, easy recipes.  One of my favorite ways to clear my home is with diffusers.  Depending on what’s happening at home guides me as to what essential oils to use.  Many times, friends and family come through the door and comment on how nice it smells and remember, a few drops goes a long way!

Here are a few ways to incorporate tangerine essential oil into your day.  It is now one of my favorites!  For those on a path to incorporate natural ways to feel good, try these. For me, it’s easy to grab a drop and place behind my ear before I teach or turn on the diffuser and go about my day.  There are endless ways to integrate them and oh, by the way, I love to share them-everyone seems to appreciate their benefits.  Since the three primary ways to work with essential oils are  inhalation {you will gain their health benefits simply by breathing in their scents}, topical or ingestion, let’s explore these  categories:

Easy Recipe to Refresh Your Home

Feeling like your home, car or office needs an air lift?  Make these simple, deodorizing discs.  The essential oils in this recipe with freshen and lift the spirit and soothe the soul with their properties.  Place the discs where needed.  It’s an easy-peasy recipe with fun results.

Prep Time:  5-10 minutes and makes 12 disc

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • 15 drops of orange essential oil
  • 10 drops of lemongrass essential oil
  • cupcake pan (12)

Mix all ingredients in a glass bowl.  Divide into twelve (12) and place in cupcake pan.  Press into pan and allow to dry completely. DO NOT REMOVE if damp (will crumble).  Store in airtight container in cool, dark place.
